Product Name: Glass Bubbles (Holo Glass)
Common Names: Hollow Glass Microspheres, Holo Glass Bubbles, Lightweight Glass Microspheres
CAS Number: 65997-17-3
Product Description:
Glass bubbles, commonly known as Holo Glass, are ultra-lightweight, inert, spherical hollow micro-particles made by high-temperature melting, foaming and cooling of high-purity inorganic glass raw materials (such as quartz sand, borax, soda ash).
Glass bubbles (Holo Glass) have excellent comprehensive performance, combining light weight, high strength and good processability, and their key performance parameters are as follows:
Density: 0.15-0.60 g/cm³ (adjustable according to the thickness of the glass wall; the lower the density, the lighter the weight, and the corresponding strength will be properly adjusted)
Compressive Strength: 0.5-100 MPa (varies with density and particle size; high-strength models can withstand high pressure in processing and use without breaking)
Chemical Stability: Insoluble in water, acid (except strong hydrofluoric acid) and alkali, non-corrosive, and does not react with resins, plastics, coatings and other materials, ensuring the stability of the final product
Thermal Performance: Low thermal conductivity (0.030-0.060 W/(m·K)), good heat insulation and heat preservation performance; it can also improve the heat resistance of the matrix material, with a high temperature resistance of up to 400℃ (short-term) and 260℃ (long-term)
Processability: High flowability, good dispersibility, easy to mix with various materials (resins, plastics, coatings, etc.) without agglomeration; it can reduce the viscosity of the system, improve the fluidity during molding, and reduce processing energy consumption
Other Characteristics: Inert, non-toxic, non-irritating, in line with international environmental protection standards; it can reduce the shrinkage and warpage of molded products, improve dimensional stability and surface smoothness; it does not affect the color of the matrix material and can be matched with various pigments
Applications
Due to its excellent comprehensive performance, glass bubbles (Holo Glass) are widely used as functional fillers in various fields, and the specific application scenarios are detailed as follows:
Composite Materials Field: As a lightweight filler for thermoplastics (PP, PA, ABS, PC, etc.) and thermosetting resins (epoxy, unsaturated polyester, etc.), it is used to produce lightweight composite materials, which can reduce the weight of products by 10%-30% while ensuring mechanical properties. It is widely used in automotive parts (dashboard, door panel, bumper), electronic and electrical shell, and building composite materials.
Automotive Industry: Used in automotive interior and exterior parts, such as door inner panels, pillar trims, battery casings, etc., to reduce vehicle weight, improve fuel efficiency, and at the same time enhance the dimensional stability and impact resistance of parts; it can also be used in automotive coatings to improve the anti-corrosion and heat insulation performance of the coating.
Coatings & Inks Field: Added to industrial coatings, architectural coatings, and inks, it can reduce the density of the coating, improve the coverage and leveling of the coating, reduce the amount of resin used, and reduce costs; it also has the functions of anti-settling and anti-cracking, making the coating surface smoother and more durable.
Insulation & Soundproofing Materials: Used in thermal insulation materials (such as thermal insulation boards, thermal insulation coatings) and soundproofing materials, relying on its closed hollow structure to block heat transfer and sound transmission, improving the thermal insulation and soundproofing effect; it is suitable for building insulation, industrial equipment insulation, and aerospace thermal insulation.
Adhesives & Sealants: Added to adhesives and sealants, it can reduce the density, improve the thixotropy and bond strength, prevent sagging during construction, and enhance the water resistance and weather resistance of the sealant; it is widely used in construction, automotive, and electronic sealing.
Aerospace & Marine Fields: Used in lightweight composite materials for aerospace components and marine equipment, which can reduce the weight of the equipment, improve the load-bearing capacity and corrosion resistance, and adapt to the harsh working environment (high temperature, high humidity, corrosion).
Other Fields: Used in putties, fillers, and lightweight concrete to improve product performance and reduce weight; it can also be used in the field of medical packaging (non-toxic and inert characteristics) and sports equipment (lightweight and high-strength requirements).
